Base Built for Sand
We compact base material in lifts and keep bedding sand thin — around an inch. Thick sand is the shortcut that lets wind-blown grit work pavers loose over time on an exposed island lot.
EVERY FOOT COUNTS ISLAND LOT PAVERS
On a barrier island where the lot runs ocean to river, we build pavers that hold up to Indialantic's sand without wasting an inch of yard doing it.
Paver installation in Indialantic
Indialantic lots run narrow between the ocean and the river, so there's rarely a wasted foot of yard to plan around. A paver patio or walkway has to do more than one job — dining space, pool surround, side-yard access — often on a footprint smaller than what you'd get on the mainland. We lay out every square foot before we cut a single paver, so the space works as hard as the lot it sits on.
Wind off the water moves sand across every barrier island surface here, and that sand works into anything not built right. We compact the base in lifts, hold bedding sand to about an inch — thick sand is the shortcut that fails — and fasten edge restraint into the base itself, not into loose sand at the border. Anywhere pavers carry a vehicle, we lay herringbone, because that pattern locks under wheel load in a way a running bond won't.
What that looks like here
We compact base material in lifts and keep bedding sand thin — around an inch. Thick sand is the shortcut that lets wind-blown grit work pavers loose over time on an exposed island lot.
Edge restraint gets fastened into the compacted base, not pinned into loose sand at the border. On a narrow lot where every foot of hardscape meets planting bed, that border is doing real work.
Between the ocean and the river, water has somewhere to go — if we plan for it. We look at slope and runoff before we set a single paver, not after the patio floods.
By the numbers
The Brevard County tax roll counts 3,345 single-family homes in Indialantic. The typical one was built in 1970, and about 90% were built before 2000.
With most homes here past twenty-five years old, many cracked or worn driveways and patios are ready to be replaced with pavers.

Local questions
Yes. We lay out the space first — dining, walkway, pool surround — and choose a pattern that makes a tight footprint feel bigger, rather than forcing a standard layout onto a lot that won't take it.
Many communities on the island have an HOA, so architectural approval is often part of the process. Get your approval in writing first — our permits and HOA page walks through what that process usually looks like.
Depends on the scope of the job — a small patio and a full driveway replacement aren't treated the same way. We'll walk the project with you, tell you exactly what your permit needs are and who's responsible for pulling it before we start, and point you to the full breakdown at /permits-and-hoa/.
